3D printing in PETG

PETG is the material for parts that work: strong, slightly flexible, unaffected by water and household chemicals, and it holds up to about 75 °C. Price per gram and an example priced by our quote engine.

PETG is the default choice as soon as a part does a job: a bracket that carries, a clip that flexes, a spare part, an enclosure that gets warm. It costs a little more than PLA and is less crisp in small details, but it does not snap, fears neither water nor household chemicals, and holds up to about 75 °C. Beyond that, or in the sun all year, see ASA.

The prices, colours and ratings quoted on this page are read from our catalog and quote engine when the page loads: they are what an order pays today.

What gets printed in PETG

  • Spare parts for appliances, machines and vehicles: clips, brackets, handles, wheels, guides.
  • Jigs, fixtures and workshop tools, which tolerate oils and drops.
  • Enclosures for electronics that get a little warm, in a workshop or a vehicle.
  • Parts in contact with water: kitchen, bathroom, garden, aquarium, pump parts.
  • Small batches of functional parts, identical from one batch to the next.

Its properties

PETG bends a little before it gives, which lets it take an impact or a clip snapping in; its surface is slightly glossy and a little softer than PLA's.

The catalog's ratings, out of 10
PropertyRating
Mechanical strength7/10
Flexibility5/10
Heat resistance6/10
  • Heat: keeps its shape up to about 75 °C; a car cabin in the sun is at the limit, the engine bay is too much.
  • UV and outdoors: far better than PLA, it lasts several seasons outside but eventually dulls; for a permanently exposed part, ASA.
  • Water and chemicals: unaffected by water, detergents, oils and alcohol; strong solvents attack it.
  • Automotive: yes for the cabin, clips, brackets and covers away from heat.

What a PETG part costs

  • 0.35 MAD per gram deposited, density 1.20 g/cm³: at equal volume, it is the weight that changes from one material to the next.
  • In stock today: PETG Force – Black, PETG Premium – Red, PETG Premium – White.
  • An electronics case of 53 g, 2 h 00 of printing, costs 199.21 MAD delivered in PETG, against 178.42 MAD in PLA (+12%).

These figures are read from the catalog and computed by our quote engine when this page loads; every order costs at least 105.00 MAD delivered. The exact price of your part shows on the online quote, and the guide How much does 3D printing cost in Morocco explains where the price comes from.

Designing for PETG

  • Walls of at least 0.8 mm; 2 mm for a part that takes loads.
  • Clips and living hinges hold, provided they are drawn with a section that flexes along its length, not across an edge.
  • Bridges and overhangs come out less well than in PLA: orient the part to limit them, or allow for supports.
  • The finish is slightly glossy; sanding mattes it, paint adheres after primer.

Questions on this material

PETG or PLA for a part that does a job?
PETG. It bends before it breaks, tolerates water and moderate heat, and costs a little more per gram. PLA remains the choice for a form prototype or an object that does no work.
Does PETG suit a car part?
For the cabin, clips, brackets and covers away from the engine, yes. For a part in the sun all year, ASA holds up better; for a part near the engine, neither.
Is PETG food-safe?
The polymer is used for bottles, but a printed part has layers and gaps that are hard to clean, and the filament is not certified; occasional dry contact is common, repeated food use is not advised.
Is PETG harder to print than PLA?
For us, no: the profiles are tuned. For you, it changes nothing in the file; only overhangs need a little more attention to orientation.
